Orlando timeshare rentals by owner are very popular because many people who buy timeshare condos in Florida can't always make it back in their time slot, so will rent out at a loss in order to make back some of the payments on their units. Orlando vacation rentals are especially popular because they are situated away from hotels and tourist traps that might charge a big markup for dining and entertainment, and they don't allow you to have some of the home-like touches (like kitchenettes) found in most timeshares. For people traveling with big families or groups, timeshares are also ideal for sporting events, event travel, or a thousand other reasons compared to lodging choices. For example, everyone in Florida connected to a hotel expects a tip, so your cab driver, bus driver, bellhop, and the guy who takes your bags out of the cab and puts them on the concierge cart all want a buck. True story: I once wanted to order a pizza in a Florida hotel, and asked for the local number. The bell desk wanted me to tell them what I wanted, so they could order the pizza and bring it to me, and get a tip for themselves! Timeshares eliminate some of this entitlement mentality. Also, if you are going to Disneyworld, Epcot, and Harry Potter at the Universal Studios Florida resort, you're going to pay enough money already, so a vacation rental by owner might save you some serious cash and let you spend a few more days.
